This is an on-going Art and Movement Therapy group. It is for those
women who want to use expressive arts as part of their healing. The group is mainly supportive
of work on one’s self.
Authentic Movement Group
for Women
Mary
Whitehouse, a dance-movement therapist from California, developed
authentic Movement. Today
it is a well-recognized form of movement that involves letting your
body communicate how you want to move while also reflecting on the
meaning of your movement experience. A witness sees the experience and takes in the
experience. The Mover is
invited to share her experience and also her witness can share the
experience. Group members
will be invited to learn to move and witness. JoAnn Hammond-Meiers, PhD. will be the main witness,
holding this responsibility for the group. Authentic drawing or painting may occur in some of
the groups, before or after moving, to enhance the experiences and add
another modality of sensory knowing. Sometimes, music is used; usually during the art
section, occasionally during a warm-up movement experience.
This Group is led by Dr JoAnn
Hammond-Meiers.
